Values

The network values productive collaboration shaped by mutual trust and respect. We welcome, foster, and include a diversity of identities, opinions, and knowledges. Our governance and operational structures reflect and enable cross-sectoral collaboration, teamwork, and participation. We are driven by an openness to listen and learn from each other, to build solutions on regional experiences and lessons learned, and to work together to build a more inclusive, regional approach to climate change.

Guiding Principles

The network is an open, positive, and non-discriminatory space of partners that seeks to create and maintain an enabling environment for all its members to contribute proactively and creatively to finding sustainable solutions to climate security challenges.

The network explicitly invites the involvement of actors and entities at all levels, local, national, regional and international, to contribute to the network’s agenda according to each actor’s respective mandate in order to join hands in fostering transformative change across all levels.

The network has a non-hierarchical structure that enables the constructive collaboration of equals. Management and decision-making roles within the network are on an elected and temporary basis, and accepted as voluntary, unpaid positions.

Male and female members of the network, as well as members of all ethnical, cultural, and religious backgrounds are of absolute equal standing. The network sees itself as a regional example of gender equality and socially inclusive work, fostering equal representation, participation, and decision-making of both genders and of vulnerable and marginalized groups, ethnic minorities, and indigenous cultures.

All opinions of members from across the region are welcome and valued, so long as they are of a non-discriminatory and non-exclusionary nature. Among the network’s members, all knowledge is of equal value - there is no hierarchy of knowledge based on scientific domains, academic qualifications, political ranks, represented sectors, gender, ethnical or cultural backgrounds.

The network’s activities are driven by a culture of sharing – of data, knowledge, information, experiences, and opinions. The network’s members work together to build each other’s, as well as national and regional capacities.

Women, indigenous groups, vulnerable and marginalized parts of populations across the Arab region are particularly invited to contribute to knowledge generation and sharing.

The network aims to lessen the gap between research and policy making, working with stakeholders from all sectors to translate knowledge, data, and local experience into targeted climate security policies and actions. Therefore, the relationship between stakeholders is one of mutual support, characterized by jointly removing barriers across the region.

While parts of the region are experiencing various levels of state and political instability as well as conflict, this network is driven by positive, peaceful cooperation to create joint, regional solutions.
