Professor of soil science at Cairo University since 2001; Senior Advisor for Sustainable Development – The League of Arab States since 2016; member of UNISDR Global-STAG since 2017 and GAR advisory group since 2010; currently: a Chief Lead Author in the Regional report “Achieving SDGs in Countries Affected By Conflicts.”; Coordination Lead Author in the UNDRR GAR Special Report on “Drought Complexity”; Founder and General Coordinator of the Arab Geographical Information Room – AGIR-LAS/AWC,” and Programme Coordinator of the League of Arab States - Climate Risk Nexus Initiative (LAS-CRNI) since 2015. Senior Advisor, CCA, and DRR at LAS (2014- 2016), Director of Land and Water Uses division in the Arab Center for the studies of Drylands and Arid zones – ACSAD/LAS, (2002 – 2014); General Coordinator for the Project “Natural Resource Studies for Potential Agriculture Land Use Planning in Sudan” (2006-2019), Lead Author in the IPCC/SREX WGII report (2009 – 2012), and Advisor and author of the World Bank Flagship Report, (2010 – 2012). Has a long list of applied researches and studies that covered more than 100 different countries in the world on the topics of “Sustainable Development, Drought, Land degradation, Vegetation Cover, Land use planning and Natural Resource studies.”
